This is a 3 day Non-competitive festival designed for North American music programs
(concert bands and wind ensembles, orchestras, jazz ensembles
and choirs) to enhance their skills and meet other musicians.
The festival is held in stunning Whistler, BC, a 125 km drive
north of Vancouver and home site of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The pedestrian-friendly Village lends itself perfectly to a safe
festival atmosphere for all participants. All restaurants, hotels
and festival venues are within an easy 10 minute walk.

Adjudication & Workshops: Concert Bands & Wind Ensembles, Jazz Bands and Choirs each give an adjudicated performance that
becomes the basis for building on ensemble strengths in the workshops
that follow. Class 2 & 3 Concert Bands perform for 20 minutes followed by a 50 minute workshop, Class
4 – 6 Concert Bands perform for 30 minutes followed by a 50 minute
workshop. Choirs perform for 30 minutes followed by a 50 minute
workshop. Jazz ensembles perform for 30 minutes followed by a
50 minute workshop. Each ensemble receives recorded and/or written
comments and a plaque.

Mass Choir rehearsal – in the afternoon to prepare for . . .
Evening Festival Concert –Showcase evening concert features Festival
choral participants as well as the UBC Jazz Ensemble with special
guest soloist Allen Vizzutti.
Evening Directors’ Reception – Directors are invited to meet
colleagues, adjudicators and festival organizers at an evening
reception hosted by Affinity Group Tours.

Master Classes – Instrumentalists participate in 50-minute classes
with outstanding professional performers and educators. Vocalists
participate in 50 minute classes with similar clinicians as well
as members of Epsilon, the Saturday evening featured performers.
Mass Trumpet/Clarinet Rehearsal – Each year the Cantando Festival
selects 2 instruments for mass performances. All festival participants
on these instruments will have an opportunity to perform together
at the Saturday evening concert. Music will be online in January.
Lunchtime faculty concert – featuring the clinicians you just
worked with in performance.
Evening Festival Concert – an opportunity to hear guest artists
of the highest caliber perform music at its finest – including
the hit performers, pop male vocal group Epsilon. More performers
